A Saturday 'jaunt' on some dead roads…

February 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Today saw a few of us hit the back roads around Eltham/Whittlesea/Kinglake for a ‘fat-burning-low-KM’ session. Once again the real toll of the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires really hit home riding up the Humevale climb. Absolutely devastating…

Not the sharpest photo (may or may not have been in the box while trying to take it…) πŸ˜›

The Humevale climb has to be one of my favorite climbs. I haven’t seen it for a few years, but I enjoy it every time! The ride was topped off by a old favorite-coffee and a muffin at the Smiths Gully General Store (just at the top of the climb out of St Andrews). Check out the route we took (mapped out on my Garmin Edge 500)!

Be sure to check out the whole Garmin range at TFM Prahran!

King Lake – one year on

A symbolic ride to King Lake one year after the tragic bush fires was the order of the day on Saturday. This is a fantastic ride and a personal favourite. Good to see the regrowth!

Latte Laps with SKCC

Stevo, Dan, Benny and myself went to help Rob Crowe (Ridewiser) with the last of the Latte Laps Skill Sessions at the St Kilda Cycling Club’s Port Melbourne crit course last Sunday…

Crowie has put in a huge amount of hard work to develop a number of drills to help the new comers to the club tackle some of the finer points to crit racing. We helped some 40 odd riders roll turns using the ‘gatekeeper role’, ride hard through a corner ‘breakaway style’, and work turns in pairs. It was a trying time for myself-having broken my collar bone in the Herald Sun Tour Support Crit last October, so some of the corners may not have been as aggressive as Crowie wanted!!!

A clumsy-slow version of the ‘Gatekeeper’!!!

Following latte laps we went and watched Pikey compete in the first Gatorade Tri for the year in Elwood. If you’ve never seen a tri before and you’re into some SIK (!) bikes and bling check out a tri bike leg- some of the kit there was amazing!!!

Specialized S-Works Road Shoe

Check out these puppies!!! The latest in shoe technology straight off the Specialized Factory floor are here…

I’ve had these shoes now for about 3 weeks and coming from the old S-Works shoes these are a complete upgrade. The body-geometry foot bed complete with the carbon soles set these fellas apart from the rest. I especially like the double Boa rachet system- one way to tighten and one way to loosen. TheyΒ  make it dead easy to change the fitting of the shoe when you are riding along. There is also an increase in ventilation, minimising the risk of ‘hot foot’!

Check them out for yourself at Specialized or call in to TFM Prahran!
